Tech Advice’s Business Services

Welcome to another blog article from Tech Advice. Today I want to highlight Tech Advice’s new services dedicated to helping small businesses and start-ups with their technology needs.

Please note that while these services are targeted towards businesses, they are available to regular consumers, charities, and community groups (e.g. Tidy Towns, local hobby clubs, one-off competitions) at reduced prices. This article is more of a summary of the new services and more information can be found on our new, dedicated “Business – Services” page, or by clicking the names of the service where they are underlined.

Our first service is the “Consultations Service”, this service is all about us trying to improve your current technology setup and improve your quality of life when using technology. This can take the form of suggesting a new free piece of software, changing settings, or providing a crash course in a piece of software or a technology concept. This service is very flexible in both what you can get out of it, its price (€30 per hour, or €10 for less than half an hour), and how it is delivered (phone, in-person, Zoom, etc.).

The website you are viewing this on, and the Facebook page that you may have heard about this article on, were both created and are maintained solely by Tech Advice, with hosting provided by third parties. With a Facebook page now a minimum for businesses to operate in an increasingly digital world, Tech Advice is now offering its help in both creating and maintaining both a basic website (through WordPress or Google Sites) and Facebook business page. Basic support and maintenance is priced at €30 per hour while creation will require an initial conversation followed by an approximate quote. Once the website and/or Facebook page are completed we can either give you some lessons on maintaining them yourself, maintain them for you, or provide you with what is called a maintenance document which you can follow in your own time.

Our third new service is a PC (desktop computer/tower/box computer) building service. This service is primarily aimed at those in fields where an off-the-shelf computer can’t be found for their needs, we would generally advise our Buying Advice service as the first option and only a custom build as a last resort. This option will always be more expensive than buying from a third party due to our labour costs and the delivery costs of buying from potentially several different vendors. We will only do a custom build for those willing to pay up front for the parts due to their high cost. It should also be mentioned that we may be able to use parts from your current computer to reduce the cost of the build.

Tech Advice also provides an “IT Policy and Procedures” document design service. This document can be helpful for your employees, yourself, and any future computer technicians or employees as it outlines how your systems interact with each other. An example would be how they share documents through the cloud, and how they are all backed up. Other information that can be included is what software your computers use, any specialist apps your phones use, policies and procedures for choosing new devices or software, any issues that might need addressing in the future. Once the document is complete, we can send it to you digitally in PDF format, and if requested a spiral bound printed copy can be sent to you.

Since opening, Tech Advice has only used in-house physical marketing materials designed and printed by us. Our last service “Physical Marketing Materials” seeks to use our knowledge and experience gained from making our own materials to provide businesses with a low-cost source of business cards, flyers, posters, and leaflets. Samples of these can be seen in the shop in Inistioge (poster on the way in) and at the Post Office in Inistioge (business cards). All designs are made in close consultation with the buyer (i.e. you) and we can adapt photos, logos, and designs that you already use and own to the new materials as needed. Please note that we can only use third party online images from “free for commercial use” sites. If we don’t provide a material that you would like, ask us anyway, we may be able to do a custom design and print for you.

By choosing Tech Advice for your business’s technology needs, you are supporting a local business that is committed to ethically helping people (i.e., not ripping them off for small jobs) and providing solutions for their devices and other technology issues. In addition, as a client you would have access to out-of-hours technical support over the phone and remotely.
